The Most Deceptive Sign in LA

most deceptive sign in la

As you drive down Sunset Blvd.eastbound toward Vermont you might see a yellow sandwich board sign at the corner of Edgemont advertising what seems to be a dozen roses for $4.

Since the area has several hospitals (Kaiser, Children's, Hollywood Pres), such a deal would seem like the sort of hidden gem that you'd expect LAist to share with you.

But the sign is hiding a dark secret. In fact it hopes that you see it in the dark. It relies on the fact that you will see it obscured in traffic.

mostdeceptivesigninla1.jpg

If you get out of your car you can clearly see that the price is actually $4.99...

...and that price is only for a half dozen. Meaning this glorious sign is really advertising roses for $10 a dozen, not $4.

Poorly played, yellow sign, poorly played.

Think!!

I am of the opinion that life is to short to be taken out by someone ordering take out food while driving. The cellphone has become an extension of our daily lives. Just the other day we were sitting around talking and someone was telling a story about running out of gas and they made the comment, "yeah, you know, before cellphones". Remember, everything in moderation, including moderation.

    Joke of the Day

    Juicy Squirt

The owner of a drug store walks in to find a guy leaning heavily against a wall. The owner asks the clerk, "What's with that guy over there by the wall?"

The clerk says, "Well, he came in here this morning to get something for his cough. I couldn't find the cough syrup, so I gave him an entire bottle of laxative."

The owner says, "You idiot! You can't treat a cough with laxatives!"

The clerk says, "Oh yeah? Look at him, he's afraid to cough!"

    Ball in a Hole

A table tennis ball (= a ping pong ball) fell into a tight deep pipe - it is about 30 cm long, buried in concrete pavement, having firm metal bottom, only 1 cm of the pipe is above the ground so it can not be moved. The pipe was only a bit wider then the ball, so you can not use your hand.
How would you take it out, with no damage?

    D.O.G.

This is my owner D.O.G. who thinks he's just another one of the guys. He sits in a chair, as you can see, resting his back. He goes everywhere I go. If he can't go there neither do I. He is probably the most photographed dog on the island. We either walk every where we go, or we ride the tricycle with him in the basket. Tourists and Winter Texans are always stopping us to take a picture.

These are some free range turkeys that wander around on our little Island. The story is that they came over here to Port Aransas from Saint Jo's Island. You seen them all the time. This house is where I see them the most.

    High Tech Grafiti

    Hoax or Real?
    clipped from lila.yft.com

AP - Time Magazine reports an interesting case of high-tech graffiti. It seems that a couple of Intel engineers working on the design of a recent version of the
Pentium microprocessor included a message that describes their feelings about Bill Gates, president of Microsoft, a good corporate pal of Intel's. When a portion
of the Pentium chip is examined under a powerful scanning electron microscope, the phrase "bill sux" is clearly visible, etched into the surface of the chip. The "flaw"
in the chip was only discovered by accident well after the chip was released into the market, too late for Intel to prevent the chip from being used in the manufacture
of tens of thousands of PCs. Intel says that both engineers responsible were former employees of Motorola, makers of the chips that are the heart of the Apple
Macintosh. Both engineers have since been fired by Intel.
